Entergy’s Donna Jacobs Honored as Top Nuclear Industry Woman Executive
Jackson, Miss. - The American Nuclear
Society presented the Mary Jane Oestmann Professional Women’s Achievement Award
to Donna Jacobs, senior vice president for planning, development and oversight,
Entergy Nuclear. “It is a privilege to represent Entergy and to inspire women in
the field,” said Jacobs.
On nominating Jacobs, Chief Nuclear
Officer Mike Kansler stated, “I characterize Donna as a positive, aggressive
leader who is tireless, taking on new assignments with ease and eagerness. Her
level of involvement and expertise has garnered the respect of her peers that is
well-deserved. Her abilities technically and as a leader are well known in the
industry.”
“Firsts” are not new to Jacobs. She
was presented the prestigious Women In Nuclear Global Award in 2006, the first
American recipient. Jacobs holds the distinction of being the first woman
nuclear plant manager and operations vice president at a U.S. nuclear power
plant. She joined Entergy in March 2008.
Jacobs has more than 22 years of
experience in the nuclear energy business. Her background includes leadership
positions in work control, maintenance, operations, project management and a
variety of roles in engineering. Prior to joining Entergy, she was vice
president, nuclear services for Pacific Gas and Electric Company in Avila Beach,
Calif. She received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Wichita
State University and a master’s of business administration at Emporia State
University. She earned her senior reactor operator certification while serving
at Wolf Creek Generating Station in Kansas, and has completed the Institute of
Nuclear Power Operations senior nuclear plant management course.
In the Jackson area, Jacobs is active
in the local community. She serves on the Mississippi Chapter Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation Board of Directors and received two awards in 2008:
Outstanding Dedication award from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
International and the “Golden Sneaker” Award for excellence in fundraising for
the Walk To Cure. Jacobs also coaches the Madison Ridgeland Youth Club
fast-pitch softball recreation league and Madison Motion All Stars fast-pitch
softball team.
The Oestmann award was established by
the American Nuclear Society to recognize outstanding personal dedication and
technical achievement by a woman for work she has performed in the fields of
nuclear science, engineering, research or education. The award is made to
fulfill a need to provide role models to students and younger members of the
Society and to stimulate greater interest and participation among women members.
